CREATIVELY!
Tuesdays, November 9 - December 21, 3 or 6 pm (Pacific)
Join Katherine Murphy to explore ways to creatively and constructively craft conversations, programs, classes, and events that build community. Neuropsychology defines creativity act as something that is both novel and useful and ALL humans have this capacity. The Cultivating Civic Conversations (CCC) programs lean heavily on creativity to weave together learning communities while discussing difficult topics.
Each one-hour Zoom session of this seven-week class introduces the resources and methods that Katherine has used to curate and create previous CCC sessions, including the design model she calls FISH (flexibility, intention, structure, hospitality).
Because this is a busy time of year, we anchor our discussions using John Cleese’s book, Creativity: A Short and Cheerful Guide, and Dewitt Jones' workshop, Everyday Creativity. And because we need more whimsey in our lives and many examples to follow, every week there is a podcast to listen to and an optional classic film (to Katherine at least) to watch. The homework, excluding the film, will take a bit over an hour a week.
We use the Sutra discussion platform for registration and as place to keep all of our content. Sutra also gives participants a place to add resources, direct message each other, and continue the conversations from the Zoom sessions into the 24/7 world. Click Register Now to sign up. You'll be asked to make a Sutra account and take a short survey. Once that is complete, you will get an email from CCC Creatively!; please check your spam or junk folder if it doesn't show up.

Katherine Murphy (Kittitas County LWV) and Wende Sanderson (Skagit County LWV) invented the Cultivating Civic Conversations (CCC) program to meet the need expressed by many community and League of Women Voters members who want “to learn how everything works in government.” Since that is a tall order, we decided to use a seminar format and tackle one theme at a time because we believe that it easier to learn, grow, and thrive in community of learners. Research shows that civic engagement builds on individual relationships and connections so we try to model this in our sessions.
We've built a structure that tries to answer part of the larger question, "How do we learn how to have transformative conversations about what it means to be human and, as humans, to constructively participate in our civic affairs?" We our events and classes help you to
