Cobolt works by reading what's written across your spaces — that's how it surfaces interests, suggests introductions, and helps you build. Most of the time that's exactly what you want. Sometimes it isn't. Here's how to keep a space, or your own contributions, outside what Cobolt sees.
How Cobolt uses your content
Cobolt indexes the writing in your spaces to detect themes, power the Members Map, and answer questions about your community. Two things are never indexed: private posts and direct messages.
Excluding a space from Cobolt
This is a manager control. Click Manage → Cobolt AI for the space and turn on Exclude from Cobolt indexing. This prevents Cobolt from indexing the space — its posts and messages won't be analyzed or used to detect interests and themes.
When you turn this on, it's also applied to every subspace beneath it, so you only need to set it once at the top.
Excluding your posts from Cobolt
If you'd rather your own contributions stay out of Cobolt — even in spaces that are indexed — you can opt out from your own settings. Open Settings (click your profile image) → Account settings → AI & Privacy and turn on Exclude from Cobolt AI.
Peer discovery controls whether Cobolt can use what you've written to make you discoverable to other members. With it off, your posts and reflections aren't used to surface you through shared themes, and you won't appear in the resonance, lenses, or constellation views of the Members Map. It's off by default.
Peer discovery also depends on Cobolt memory being on. If Cobolt memory is turned off, peer discovery turns off with it — so turning off memory is the most complete way to keep your contributions out of Cobolt.
What happens next
Privacy changes take effect the next time Cobolt re-processes content. Themes and matches that were already detected fade as the excluded content drops out of the index, so you may not see the change instantly.
Troubleshooting
I excluded a space but still see its themes. Re-indexing takes a little time. The space's content will drop out on the next pass.
Peer discovery is greyed out. It depends on Cobolt memory being enabled. Turn memory back on to opt in.
What about private posts and DMs? Those are never indexed by Cobolt — you don't need to do anything.
