Broadcast settings control how your emails are sent — the address they come from, how they're built, how many can go out, and who's excluded. Most of these only need to be set up once, and they apply to every broadcast you send afterward.
Before you start
Open broadcast settings
Go to Settings.
Select Broadcast from the sidebar, then open the Settings tab.
Branded email sending
By default, broadcasts go out from a shared Sutra address. Connecting your own sending domain makes emails come from you — which builds trust with recipients and improves deliverability.
Custom sender domain — Add the domain you want to send from (for example, yourbrand.com). Sutra gives you a set of DNS records to add at your domain provider.
DKIM & SPF verification — These records let mailbox providers confirm Sutra is authorized to send on your behalf. Until both verify, broadcasts fall back to the default Sutra address.
From-name and address identities — Set the name and email address recipients see in their inbox. You can save more than one identity and choose which one to use per broadcast.
To connect your own sending domain so broadcasts come from your address:
In Broadcast → Settings, find Branded email senders and click Add sender identity.
Enter the domain you want to send from — for example, yourbrand.com — and save. Sutra generates a set of DNS records for that domain (a DKIM record and an SPF / return-path record).
In a separate tab, sign in to your domain provider — wherever your DNS is hosted (for example GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Namecheap, or Google Domains) — and open its DNS settings.
Add each record Sutra shows you, one at a time. Copy the Type, Host / Name, and Value exactly as given — don't edit or shorten the values. Some providers automatically append your domain to the Host field, so paste only the part Sutra shows.
Save the records at your provider, then return to Sutra and click Verify. DNS changes are usually live within a few minutes but can take up to 48 hours to propagate.
When both DKIM and SPF show as Verified, set the from-name and from-address recipients will see, and select that identity for your broadcasts.
Until verification finishes, broadcasts keep going out from the default Sutra address — nothing is blocked while you wait.
Email builder & reusable footers
The email builder lets you design broadcasts from reusable pieces instead of starting from a blank page each time.
Template builder — Build and save layouts — header, body, and buttons — that you can reuse across broadcasts to keep a consistent look.
Named sender footers — Create named footers — for example, your mailing address and unsubscribe link — and attach them to any broadcast. Footers keep your sending consistent and help you meet anti-spam requirements.
Broadcast send caps
Send caps limit how many emails your account can send. They protect your deliverability and prevent accidental over-sending.
Your monthly allowance depends on your plan. Broadcasts are available on Bronze and above — the Forever Free plan doesn't include them.
Bronze — up to 5,000 broadcast emails per month.
Silver — up to 25,000 broadcast emails per month.
Gold — up to 100,000 broadcast emails per month.
Per-account sending limit — Your account has a maximum number of broadcast emails it can send. If a broadcast would push you over the cap, you'll be warned before it goes out.
If you regularly send to a large audience and need a higher cap, contact support to have it raised.
Suppression list
The suppression list is the set of addresses Sutra will never send to. It's maintained automatically to protect your sender reputation and keep you compliant.
Find this by clicking Manage > Broadcast > Settings > Suppressions:
Opt-outs — When someone unsubscribes, they're added automatically and left out of every future broadcast.
Bounces — Addresses that hard-bounce are suppressed so you stop sending to inboxes that don't exist.
Complaints — When a recipient marks a broadcast as spam, that address is suppressed to protect your reputation with mailbox providers.
You can review the suppression list at any time and, where appropriate, remove an address you know is valid.
Troubleshooting
My domain won't verify — Re-open the DNS records in Sutra and compare each one character-for-character with what's at your provider. Common causes are an extra space, a missing value, or the provider auto-appending your domain to the Host field. After fixing, wait a few minutes (occasionally up to 48 hours) and click Verify again.
Emails still come from the Sutra address — This means DKIM and SPF aren't both verified yet. Finish verification; until then Sutra falls back to the default address automatically.
A broadcast is blocked or warns about the cap — You're at or near your monthly send limit. Check Broadcast send caps above, or contact support to raise your cap.
A member didn't receive a broadcast — Their address may be on the suppression list (they unsubscribed, hard-bounced, or marked a previous email as spam). Open Manage → Broadcast → Settings → Suppressions to check, and remove the address if you know it's valid.
What's next
With your sender domain, email templates, send caps, and suppression list in place, your broadcasts are ready to go. Head to Broadcast to create and send your first email, use Filter broadcast recipients to target a specific group, and check Broadcast analytics after sending to see opens, clicks, and delivery.
