“It’s an accelerant for learning — and a panic diffuser when someone needs to know something quickly. For someone who doesn’t have technical skills, it’s easy peasy. It’s like butter.”
— Courtney Smith, Center for Conscious Living and Dying
Meet Courtney Smith — a music therapist turned death doula who helps lead the Center for Conscious Living and Dying. She trains care volunteers to hold space at the threshold of life and death, and built the entire learning experience on Sutra.
What once lived across scattered tools now has one home: courses, reflections, discussions, and a cohort that learns together. Her trainings have prepared roughly 160 direct care volunteers — reaching an estimated 5,000+ people in their final chapter.
About Courtney
Courtney Smith began her career as a music therapist in both birth and death. A trained death doula, hospice volunteer, and certified nurse assistant with 20+ years in social services, she’s guided by lifelong practices of meditation, Kundalini yoga, and shamanic and ancestry work.
