Choose the few steps that unlock participation
An onboarding checklist should help a new member become oriented and take the first meaningful actions. Good steps include reading the welcome page, completing a profile, reviewing agreements, introducing yourself, or opening the first module.
Avoid using the checklist as a table of contents. Four clear actions are usually more inviting than a long inventory of everything in the space.
Write each item as an action
Open Manage and find Member Onboarding in General Settings. Give every checklist item a direct title, a short explanation when needed, and the destination or action that supports it.
Put the steps in a useful order. For example, ask members to complete their profile before inviting them to browse the directory and connect with others.
Review where people stop
Members can complete items and return to unfinished steps, while Sutra records checklist progress. Use that information to notice unclear instructions or unnecessary friction.
Test every link as a member before launching. When the program changes, update the checklist so it continues to point to the current pages and expectations.
