Make the first steps visible
The member checklist turns onboarding into a short sequence that members can return to. Each item can include a title, supporting text, and a destination or action that points people to the right place.
Use it for the few steps that unlock the experience: read the welcome page, complete a profile, introduce yourself, review community agreements, or open the first module.
Keep the list achievable
A checklist should create momentum, not document every possibility. Put essential actions first and use direct labels such as “Introduce yourself” or “Choose your notification settings.”
Link each item to the exact page or action when possible. Members should not have to search for the thing the checklist asks them to do.
Use completion as a signal
Members can complete items and return to unfinished steps. Sutra records checklist progress, allowing managers to understand where onboarding may be getting stuck.
If many people stop at the same step, improve the instruction or simplify the destination. The checklist is most useful when it reveals friction as well as guiding members through it.
