A member onboarding checklist gives people a gentle first path through your space. You can point members toward important pages, surveys, profile setup, outside links, or short content panels, then let them mark their progress as they settle in.
Before you start
Member onboarding checklists require Bronze or above.
You need to be a manager of the space.
The checklist appears to active members of that space when it is enabled and has visible steps.
This is different from Sutra's global product onboarding checklists, which are created centrally by Sutra.
Add checklist steps
Open the space where you want members to see the checklist.
Go to the onboarding checklist settings.
Add a step.
Give the step a clear title.
Add optional instructions if the member needs context.
Choose where the step should send the member.
Choose whether the step completes automatically or manually.
Save the step.
You can add multiple steps and reorder them into the sequence you want members to follow.
Choose a destination
Checklist steps can point members to:
Space: send the member to a specific Sutra space or page.
Link: send the member to an external URL. Links need to begin with HTTP or HTTPS.
Survey: send the member to a survey.
Profile: ask the member to update their profile.
Content: show a content panel inside Sutra.
If a linked space or survey is renamed, Sutra tries to resolve the current destination. If it is deleted, the step can become unavailable until you edit or remove it.
Choose auto or manual completion
Use Auto completion when opening the destination is enough. For example, a step that simply introduces the member to a welcome page can complete as soon as the member opens it.
Use Manual completion when you want the member to decide when the task is done. For example, Introduce yourself in the forum is usually better as a manual checkbox because Sutra cannot know whether the introduction felt complete to them.
Preview the checklist
After adding steps, preview the member experience. Check that each destination opens, the order feels natural, and the instructions are short enough to be useful.
What members can do
Members can open checklist items, complete or uncomplete manual items, minimize the widget for the current experience, or dismiss the checklist. Dismissal is stored on their membership and applies across devices.
What happens next
Once enabled, the checklist gives members a visible starting path inside the space. You can return to the settings later to edit steps, repair unavailable destinations, or adjust completion behavior as your onboarding improves.
Troubleshooting
If you cannot add a step, confirm the space is on Bronze or above and that you are a manager.
If a step completes just by opening it, change the completion mode from Auto to Manual.
If a destination is unavailable, the linked space or survey may have been deleted or changed.
If a member dismissed the checklist, it will not keep returning for that membership.
If a pending member does not see the checklist, wait until they are active.
