When your Sutra space is also your website, a custom domain lets people visit it from an address you own. You can connect the domain, copy the DNS records into your domain provider, check verification status, and choose which address should be primary.
Before you start
Your space needs to be a top-level website space. Domains are managed from the website root, even when you open settings from a child page.
Custom domains require Silver or above.
You need to be a top-level manager or Sutra administrator to add, check, make primary, or remove a domain.
You need access to the DNS settings wherever your domain is registered.
Connect the domain
Open the website space you want to use with your domain.
Go to the domain settings for that website.
Enter the domain or subdomain you want to connect.
Choose whether it should become the primary domain once it is active.
Save the domain.
Sutra will normalize the hostname, check your domain quota, create the connection, and show the DNS records you need to add with your domain provider.
Add the DNS records
Open your registrar or DNS provider.
Add the exact DNS records shown in Sutra.
Save your DNS changes.
Return to Sutra and select Check.
DNS changes can take time to propagate. If the status remains pending, compare every returned record with what you entered at your DNS provider, then check again after propagation has had time to settle.
Make a domain primary
Once a domain is active, choose Make primary to make it the preferred public address for the website.
Making a domain primary changes the main address visitors should use. It does not remove the standard Sutra URL, and it does not make an unverified domain active before DNS and SSL are ready.
What happens next
When DNS and SSL verification complete, the domain becomes active and routes visitors to the website root. Child pages continue to work underneath that website. If you remove the custom domain later, the website stays available at its Sutra URL.
Troubleshooting
If the domain is still pending, confirm every DNS record exactly matches what Sutra shows, then select Check again.
If SSL is pending, the DNS may be correct but the certificate may still be provisioning.
If Silver says your domain quota is already used, remove a failed or unused domain connection before adding another one.
If you opened settings from a child page and cannot edit domains, switch to the top-level website root.
If Make primary does not change the public address, confirm the domain is active first.
