Use this setup when you sell several levels of a program and each higher level should include access to the earlier levels.
Important: Buying Level 2 does not automatically unlock Level 1. Sibling spaces have separate memberships. Add every space the buyer should receive to that payment plan.
How cumulative access works
Each payment plan has a Spaces included in this plan field. After a successful purchase, Sutra adds the buyer as a member of:
The selling space is included automatically and cannot be removed from the plan.
For three sibling spaces named Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3, configure the plans like this:
Level 1 plan: include Level 1.
Level 2 plan: include Level 1 and Level 2.
Level 3 plan: include Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3.
Choose spaces by access type
The rule: Add a space to Spaces included in this plan only when the purchase must give the buyer membership in that exact space. Do not select every descendant “to be safe.”
Selling space: The space where the payment plan is configured is included automatically. You do not need to select it again.
Landing page: This only decides where the buyer is sent after checkout. It does not grant access or membership. Choose a page the buyer will already be allowed to open.
Open subspace: Do not include it merely because it sits below a paid space. If the buyer can reach it through the parent’s access rules, no direct membership is needed. Include it only if you specifically need the buyer to become a member of that subspace.
Private subspace: If it must open immediately after purchase, include that exact private space in the plan. Selecting its parent does not create membership in private descendants.
Example: a landing page with nested open and private spaces
Suppose the payment plans are configured in Program Home and the structure looks like this:
For a Level 2 purchase: select Level 1, Level 1 → Coaching Room, Level 2, and Level 2 → Coaching Room. Do not select Program Home because it is automatic. Do not select either open Welcome space unless you need direct membership there. Set the Landing page to Program Home or another included page the buyer should see first.
For a Level 3 purchase: use the same logic for Levels 1, 2, and 3: select each paid level plus every private descendant that must open. Leave open descendants unselected when access through their parent is sufficient.
Create the payment plans
Open the space where people will register and pay.
Go to Manage → Payment Settings.
Under Payment Plans, create or edit a plan.
Under Spaces included in this plan, select each level included in the purchase and each exact private descendant that must open. Do not select open descendants just because they appear in the hierarchy.
Choose the Landing page the buyer should see after checkout. This setting does not add access; it only controls where the buyer arrives.
Save the plan, then repeat for the other levels.
Payment plan or automation?
Use Spaces included in this plan when access is part of what the customer is buying. This is the reliable way to make different payment plans grant different sets of spaces.
The automation trigger A member is added to this space is a membership event. It can run after a purchase, invitation, manager action, or another automation. It does not identify which payment plan was purchased.
Use an automation only when the same action should happen every time someone becomes a member of the trigger space, regardless of how they joined, or when access depends on a later event.
When several spaces have the same name
If the selector contains several spaces called "Module 1" or "Module 2," temporarily rename them to include their level-for example, "Level 2 - Module 1." Confirm the plan selections before restoring shorter names.
Test each plan
Test with a regular participant account because managers may be able to open spaces that participants cannot.
Level 1 purchase: Level 1 opens; Levels 2 and 3 remain restricted.
Level 2 purchase: Levels 1 and 2 open; Level 3 remains restricted.
Level 3 purchase: Levels 1, 2, and 3 open.
For every plan, confirm that each required private subspace opens.
Troubleshooting
A Level 2 buyer cannot access Level 1: edit the Level 2 payment plan and confirm that Level 1 is selected under Spaces included in this plan. Sharing a parent space does not link sibling memberships.
A private module is still locked: confirm that the exact private space is included in the plan or is added by an automation. Including only its parent is not enough to create membership.
An automation ran for someone who did not buy the expected plan: the member-added trigger does not identify the purchased plan. Put purchase-specific access in Spaces included in this plan, or make the automation safe for every way a person can join the trigger space.
