A survey is a way to gather information before, during, or after a program. In Sutra, surveys and quizzes are created from the same place: a quiz is simply a survey with quiz mode turned on, so you can add correct answers, scoring, and an optional answer key.
Before you start
You need manager access to the space where the survey will live.
Surveys are available on Silver and Gold plans. Quiz mode is available on Gold.
Creating a survey does not automatically show it to participants. After you create it, add it to a page with the Survey or quiz block or share its link.
Create the survey or quiz
Open the space where you want to create the survey.
Choose Manage from the top menu, then open the Surveys tab.
Select Create survey.
Name the survey, add an optional description, then choose Add question.
Add the questions you need. Question types include multiple choice, single choice, short answer, member property.
Use Require response for questions people must answer before submitting.
Turn on quiz mode
To make the survey a quiz, turn on Enable quiz mode in the survey settings. You can then mark correct answers for choice questions and optionally turn on After submit show score and answer key so participants see their score after submitting.
Quiz scoring is a simple correct-answer count, such as "You got 4 out of 6 correct." There are no weighted points or pass/fail thresholds.
Share the survey
Once the survey exists, choose how people should find it.
Add it to a page: Edit the page, choose the insert menu, then Special > Survey or quiz. Create a new survey or select an existing one in the drawer. This adds a Take survey button to the page.
Share a direct link: From Manage > Surveys, open the survey menu and choose Copy link. You can paste that link into a broadcast, message, page, or email.
Use it during registration: If people should answer before entering the space, add the survey to your registration flow instead. See Add survey to registration.
The important thing to remember: Manage > Surveys is where you create and manage surveys. It is not where participants discover them.
View and export responses
Go to Manage > Surveys.
Open the survey menu and choose View responses.
Use Summary to see totals across questions, or Individual to review one person's full response.
To export all responses, choose Download XLS from the survey menu. Sutra emails the spreadsheet to you when it is ready.
What happens next
Participants see a Take survey button wherever you add the survey, or they can open the direct link you share. After someone submits, managers can review responses from the survey menu and use automations triggered by survey completion when a follow-up step is needed.
Troubleshooting
The survey exists, but participants cannot see it: Add it to a page with the Survey or quiz block, or share the Copy link URL. A survey created under Manage > Surveys is not visible by itself.
The Take survey button does nothing: The button may not be linked to a survey. Edit the page, select the button, and choose the survey again, or delete the block and insert Survey or quiz again.
Logged-out visitors are sent to sign in: Turn on Allow responses from people who are not logged in to Sutra if you want anonymous public responses.
Someone needs to retake the survey: Turn on Allow retake. If you also want to keep earlier attempts, turn on Keep previous responses when members retake.
