Tax collection for paid spaces runs through the Stripe account that processes the member payment. Sutra can pass tax collection settings into checkout, but Stripe is where business details, tax registrations, receipts, and invoices are configured.
Before you start
Connect Stripe for the paid space.
Review your Stripe business profile and tax settings.
Use Stripe or a tax professional for legal or accounting advice. Sutra does not determine your tax obligations.
Enable tax collection
Open the paid space.
Click Manage.
Open General settings and expand Privacy and payment settings.
Go to the tax or payment tax settings.
Turn on tax collection.
Save your changes.
Preview checkout and confirm the buyer sees the expected tax behavior.
What Stripe controls
Stripe controls the tax calculation, receipt, invoice, seller identity, business address, and tax fields for the account that processed the payment.
For member payments, that is the creator's connected Stripe account.
For your Sutra account subscription, that is Sutra's Stripe account.
Receipts, invoices, and taxes
Not every payment has the same kind of document. A one-time card payment may have a receipt. A recurring subscription payment may have an invoice. Free, zero-dollar, failed, alternate, or older legacy payments may not have a Stripe document.
Refunds also do not rewrite the original invoice. Stripe may show separate refund or credit information.
What happens next
After tax collection is enabled, new eligible checkouts use the connected Stripe account's tax configuration. Existing payment records are not retroactively recalculated.
Troubleshooting
If tax is not appearing at checkout, confirm that Stripe Tax and business details are configured in Stripe.
If the invoice shows the wrong seller details, update the connected Stripe account's business information.
If an invoice link is missing, confirm the charge succeeded and that Stripe generated an invoice or receipt for that payment type.
If you are looking at a Sutra account-plan invoice, use Settings -> Billing & usage instead of the space payment history.
