Participation analytics help you see how members are moving through a course, community, or learning space. The report brings together activity, completion, submissions, video watch signals, and nested space progress so you can notice where people are engaged, stuck, or ready for support.
Before you start
Participation analytics are a manager reporting surface.
Silver includes participation insights; advanced participation analytics and exports require Gold.
Reports are snapshots of current data and can change when filters, content requirements, or member activity changes.
Open participation analytics
Open the space you want to review.
Go to the participation or analytics area in the manager settings.
Choose the report or grid view if more than one view is available.
The grid shows people alongside reportable content in the space hierarchy. You can use it to review overall progress, then drill into a specific person or content item when you need more detail.
Understand participation and completion
Participation and completion are related, but they are not the same.
Participation usually means the member did something: posted, reflected, submitted a survey or quiz, watched video, or interacted with content.
Completion means Sutra has enough information to mark an item as complete. That can happen through an explicit completion action, a qualifying submission, or calculated progress from child spaces depending on how the content is set up.
A member can participate without completing an item. A member can also complete something without showing much discussion activity.
Filter the report
Use filters to focus the report on the people or content you want to understand. You might filter to one cohort, one nested lesson, or one completion state.
Filters change the denominator behind summaries. If two reports show different percentages, first check whether they are using the same people, content scope, and date of generation.
Review video and submission signals
Where available, the report can show video watch progress, submissions, scores, or message details. An empty cell is not always a problem. It may mean the content type does not create that kind of signal, the member has not interacted yet, or the background processing has not caught up.
Export participation data
Use the export controls when you need to review the report in a spreadsheet or keep a snapshot for your records. Standard exports focus on the current report. Advanced exports can include a broader data set and may take longer to generate.
What happens next
Use participation analytics as a guide for care, not as a perfect measure of learning. A low-completion area might mean members are stuck, but it might also mean the content requirement changed, the report is filtered narrowly, or a rollup is still processing.
Troubleshooting
If progress is not 100%, check which items are required and whether each requires a completion action, submission, or child-space progress.
If a course percentage changed, review recent content requirement changes, nested spaces, filters, and rollup timing.
If a video cell is blank, the video may not be reportable yet or the member may not have recognized watch telemetry.
If exported totals differ from the grid, confirm the same filters and scope were used.
If members ask whether they can see everyone else's progress, the answer is no; cross-member reports are manager-restricted.
