Scrolling my Facebook feed recently I was struck by the many ways that people are finding to share themselves and come together during this time. People are live streaming DJ sets, hosting conversations, and sharing inspirational stories. I even saw a video of children practicing yoga.
A crisis can bring people together in powerful ways. Usually the crisis happens locally, mobilizing people in a town or region. Today, the crisis is happening globally. It is mobilizing the entire planet.
The word crisis comes from the Greek word krisis, meaning a turning point in a disease. It is a decisive moment when change must happen, for better or for worse. Are we at such a moment in human history?
The blessing here is that this is a global crisis from which we can recover. It’s not an asteroid. Or a nuclear war. Or an alien invasion.
It is strong enough to put the whole world on lockdown. But gentle enough to not destroy humanity or the planet in the process.
Billions of people are withdrawing from the day to day activity of every day life.
Wow.
My heart is with the many people that are struggling and suffering at this time.
This is a moment to hold space for all that is happening in the world. And for ourselves. What is called for is a being with. Becoming present to life, as it is, without the usual distractions. This can be uncomfortable. Truly feeling the sensation of uncertainty or helplessness. But there’s also a possibility. A possibility of discovering ourselves, and each other, in a new way.
I invite you to take a deep breath.
What’s present for you right now in your personal experience? What’s here for you in your body right now?
This week’s video explores the possibility of presence.
In a couple of weeks we’re launching a new cohort of our Transformational Teaching Online mentorship program.
If you have something to teach or you’re interested in bringing people together, this program is all about how to hold and work with space online. Over the course of two months you’ll learn how to deliver truly transformational experiences.
It’s easy to throw some content up on a website and call that a course. It’s hard for that material to have a lasting impact on people’s lives. If you’ve ever taken an in person workshop that left you feeling elevated, you know the feeling.
Our upcoming mentorship program distills everything we have learned over the last five years of working with groups. It will help you design and launch your online offering in a way that leaves people feeling connected and uplifted. By the end of the program you will have a deep understanding of how to work with space powerfully and you will launch your own group learning experience.
Holding space is bringing people into presence with each other. Your capacity as a leader is a practiced sensitivity to how to do that skillfully. If you want to share what you know in a way that will touch people’s lives, this program will give you the understanding to do so.
If this resonates with you, please join me for a free webinar conversation I’m hosting next week on Thursday, April 2nd.
